What happens when I upload a duplicate order?

Updated on 18 June 2026

When a new order is uploaded, if it contains the same Order Number as an existing order, Stream will handle the duplicate based on the existing order’s status and your system settings.

This guide will explain what happens when you upload a duplicate order.

Duplicates for Unconfirmed orders

If the order is unconfirmed in Stream, when an order with a duplicate Order Number is uploaded, it will add new item lines to the order for any newly uploaded items, and/or it will create duplicate item lines for any items that were already on the order in Stream.

Duplicates for Confirmed orders

If the order is confirmed in Stream, when an order with a duplicate Order Number is uploaded, the duplicate order will be rejected at the point of upload.

Allow duplicate order creation

You can tell Stream to allow duplicate orders to be created at the point of upload.

If you tick the ‘Allow duplicates’ option on the Order Upload screen, and the upload detects an existing order with the same Order Number, it will automatically create a new order with a number suffix at the end of the Order Number.

For example, if the Order Number is “ABCD123456”, the duplicate order will be created as “ABCD123456(1)”

Warning

This can only be done a maximum of 4 times. A fifth attempt to upload the same duplicate order number will be rejected at the point of upload.
