Sending push notifications to drivers

Updated on 21 October 2026

You can send push notifications about a run to the assigned driver via the planning screen in Stream.

Warning

The driver will need to ensure they have the Notifications permission turned on for the Stream app in their device settings in order to be able to receive notifications for the platform. For help with this, see our guide on Enabling mobile app permissions

When to use push notifications

Some use cases for push notifications include:

  • To update a driver that there is a new run assigned to them
  • To update a driver when a change has been made on a run they are either assigned to, or currently performing

Send a push notification to the driver

To send a push notification to the assigned driver on a run:

Please Note

The run will need to be marked as ‘Closed’ in order for the ‘Notify Driver’ button to appear in the Actions menu in the Selected Run section of the Advanced Planning screen.

  1. Select the run in the ‘Runs’ list
  2. Click Actions
  3. Click ‘Notify Driver’
    KB-Click-Notify-Driver
  4. In the popup window, enter a title and a message for the notification
    KB-Enter-Driver-Push-Notification
  5. Click ‘Send’. You will receive a confirmation that the notification has been sent, and the driver will receive the notification on their device.

Please Note

The driver may not receive the notification instantly if their device has lost signal to the network. In this case, they will receive the notification when the network connection returns.

Automatically notify drivers when closing a run

You can also enable a setting to automatically notify the driver when a run that they are assigned to is marked as ‘Closed’, which is the point at which the run becomes available for the driver to view in the mobile app.

To enable this:

  1. Click ‘Settings’ in the main menu
  2. Click the ‘Planning’ tab in the left sidebar
  3. Scroll down to the ‘Run Management’ section
  4. Enable the ‘Auto notify driver upon run close’ setting
  5. Click ‘Save’

Now, when a driver is assigned to a run and it gets marked as closed, they will receive a push notification to let them know.
