Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get about our Turn GPS sat nav app for HGVs and commercial vehicles.
The app uses a combination of built-in and downloaded map information. The download status for the current map region is displayed at the bottom of the Map Settings panel in the Settings screen.
The Turn GPS app will work offline and continue to navigate based on downloaded map information. However, route calculation and map information based on live traffic updates will not be possible.
The app uses whichever location sources are available on the device, such as GPS or other Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, mobile network signals and Wi-Fi network signals.
The latitude and longitude specified against the location in Stream will be passed. This means if a what3words address has been supplied, or the latitude and longitude have been updated to be more precise, then Turn GPS will provide navigation to the exact specified location.
When a vehicle width is specified in Turn GPS, the routing engine will take into account any legal restrictions on the roads. In addition, commercial vehicle routing will also favour high-priority over low-priority roads. This can include avoiding road types such as residential roads, small forest roads, or narrow side streets. It can also lead to preferring to stay on a major road instead of detouring through a city centre if the benefit for the chosen routing mode is only minor.
