Earlier this week, Proximity, the designers and developers of Stream, An Post and DB Schenker were announced as the winners of Post and Parcel Technology International’s New Business Diversification of the Year award at an awards ceremony in Geneva.

Proximity were shortlisted for the award, as part of a new venture with An Post, the Irish Post Office, and DB Schenker, who are one of the world’s largest transport and logistics providers.

An Post and DB Schenker launched Post Logistics, a new and innovative door-to-door pallet collection and delivery service that makes it easier for small and medium sized enterprises (SME’s) in Ireland to export to the rest of Europe.

Dave Pickburn, director of Proximity, said:

“In conjunction with An Post and DB Schenker, STREAM logistics management software, designed and developed by Proximity, provides the backbone for enabling Irish SME’s to export goods in a simple and cost-effective way. The software platform gives businesses an accurate cost price up front for collecting pallets from a location in Ireland to anywhere in Europe.

Stream provides Irish SME’s end-to-end track and trace visibility of the collection and delivery process with proactive email notifications throughout, integrating seamlessly with An Post and DB Schenker’s existing IT systems and data.

An Post’s drivers use Stream’s mobile driver App on Zebra rugged Android devices.

Since the beginning of the year, hundreds of customers have signed up to the service and the number of shipments going through Post Logistics has grown week-by-week. There are a wide range of goods being shipped, including manufacturing products, food and drink products and craft goods.

We are continually investing in the Stream platform, including integration with Google Maps; automated route and load planning; vehicle maintenance, walkaround checks and defect reporting; and providing planners with the ability to take vehicle availability and capabilities into account.

Stream is a scalable, flexible and secure cloud-based platform that can be accessed via a browser on any device.”

The awards have been judged by a panel of 18 experts from across the post and parcel operations sector. The new business diversification category recognises and rewards postal operators, or the Suppliers that have supported them, in venturing into a new area of business and developing new diversified services and solutions.

Other providers shortlisted for the category included Austrian Post’s shöpping.at, Deutsche Post’s SIMSme Business, and i2C and Australia Post’s payments platform.

Liam O’Sullivan, Director of Mail Operations at An Post said:

“The logistics and parcel sector we operate in is changing rapidly and we have to adapt and meet the requirements of our customers. They helped to shape what Post Logistics is all about: we matched all that is best about An Post with a very real demand from customers for an international freight forwarding service that is simpler, faster, reliable and offers real value. The real win for everyone involved is that we can actually help Irish businesses trade more effectively on the global stage.”
